Understanding Industrial Equipment and Our Manufacturing Legacy

I'm Sandra Adams, a blogger and enthusiast of many eclectic targets, including pottery and industrial equipment and supplies. I've traced my family tree as far back as I can go and there is not one moment where my family hasn't been involved in manufacturing. My dad worked as a mechanic repairing industrial machinery and if it wasn't for me, he wouldn't have anyone to pass down his knowledge to. I've always wanted to know what my dad was up to, so I'd ask him what he did everyday. I've always been really curious and this has lead me to develop a really strong understanding of industrial equipment. My love for industrial equipment hasn't waned and now I feel like sharing this knowledge with others. I've created this blog for this exact purpose.

3 Signs Your Forklift Needs Professional Attention

Blog

You rely on your forklift to do the heavy lifting in your place of business, so it is a piece of equipment that should be cared for properly. Unfortunately, too many business owners neglect their forklifts until something goes terribly wrong. There are certain situations that should signal you to call a forklift repair professional for help. Take a look at a few of those signals so you know when it is critical to get professional attention to avoid major problems.

The mast no longer moves up and down in a smooth fashion.

The raising and lowering of the mast is intended to be a smooth operation of the forklift. If it is not, you run the risk of jarring the loads so much that you lose items in a stack or the forklift loses balance, neither of which are a good situation. If you are noticing that the mast on your forklift is no longer moving up and down smoothly, it is a surefire sign that your forklift is in need of some good maintenance attention. In most cases, this kind of problem is an easy fix as long as it has not been left unattended for too long.

The chain appears to be misaligned.

The chain that is responsible for lifting and lowering the mast is probably one of the more common operational components that will need to be replaced on occasion. However, a lot of forklift owners neglect this fact and use the chain until it is in dire condition. One of the first signs that your chain may need to be replaced is if you see that the links are starting to twist and turn. The chain should rest taut and in place so there is no shifting when a load is being maneuvered. Likewise, if you spot signs of corrosion or breakage, you should take the forklift out of service until it is tended to by a professional.

The forklift seems to be emitting more heat than usual.

If the operator of the forklift complains that the forklift seems to be generating a lot of heat, it is important to have the equipment checked out by a professional right away. There are a few things that can cause your forklift to overheat, such as lacking lubrication in moving parts and problems with the battery itself. No matter what the cause, unchecked overheating can be detrimental to the entire piece of equipment.
